One of the biggest boxing event of the decade, Mayweather vs Pacquiao didn’t happened as expected. Let’s face it, with all the hopes and underdog story of Pacquiao, people were expecting a better fight, more punches, less ducking, and dodging. Don’t get me wrong, both the boxers have my respect.
I was one of those on the side of
Manny Pacquiao but I was hoping for him to be the aggressor, throw more
punches, but it wasn’t to be. Many commercials proclaimed
it to be the biggest match of the century which took seven years in the making
and it didn’t proved out to be.
Pacquiao was packing 152 pounds
before the match and that’s the heaviest he’s been, which I believe really slowed him down and
that’s where lighter and faster Mayweather was able to
manover him around in the ring and the corners. One shot here, one shot there.
By the end score was 118-110 Mayweather, 116-12 Mayweather, 116-112 Mayweather.
And with that Mayweather made 200 million dollars for less than a 40 minutes
fight, and that’s excluding the advertisement, revenue, sponsorship,
merchandise and what not.
Mayweather with undefeated record
of 48-0, after the showcase announced he’s going
to have one more fight in September and after that he’s planning on retiring, and pretty sure he’s going to end his career at 49-0, undefeated. So,
will there be a rematch?
Although, there are talks about
rematch in 2016, but since he’s announced his retirement
this September, it doesn’t look like there will be a
rematch, Mayweather has nothing to prove, he won the match with all due
respect, both boxers are already multi-millionaires, but if Mayweather does
agree for a rematch, it sure is going to be bigger, badder, and more millions
to be earned.
Pacquiao became
the centre of attention after the match, won on points by Mayweather, when it
was revealed that he had gone into the ring with a shoulder injury. The problem
emerged two-and-a-half weeks before the fight, but Pacquiao's team had not
revealed details of the problem in paperwork submitted to the Nevada State
Athletic Commission before the showdown.
It was clear that
the Filipino was below par against Mayweather, throwing far fewer punches than
expected, and it has now been confirmed that he will undergo surgery on a torn
rotator cuff. The procedure is expected to sideline him for almost a year,
which makes it quite obvious there isn’t going to be a rematch.
